Edmonton Oilers Empty Edmonton Oilers

A new era for the Edmonton Oilers begins as they've announced Dylan Barrons will become their new General Manager. He laid out a vision for the team, to acquire some size and defensive ability, as well as a possible starting goaltender. He said he is excited to get going this season with a very mobile squad and lots of up and coming players, they have a good opportunity to make some strides. He said his goal is playoffs, but things will be evaluated every few weeks to determine the direction of the team.

As for the first move as GM, he sent 2011 1st overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as well as prospects Teemu Hartikainen and Oscar Klefbom to the Toronto Maple Leafs for James Van Reimsdyk, Cody Franson and tough guy Colton Orr.

The additions of 'JVR' and Franson are seen as big steps for the organization, gaining two sizeable players with offensive talent. Barrons is hoping the addition of JVR will secure his top 6 wingers, now looking for maybe a top 6 center to play instead of Horcoff.
